Profile of volunteer coaches


Volunteer coaches act as individual coaches, trainers, application evaluators and members of Mtl inc. advisory committees.


They are managers, executives, CEOs or experts in their field. Over a quarter are entrepreneurs, and more than 40% have a professional title.


Volunteer coaches participate in the Laureates’ growth by helping them solve business challenges in an environment of trust based on respectful exchanges.

To meet our Laureates’ needs, we generally look for volunteer coaches with over 10 years of relevant experience.

Being an entrepreneur or having business experience in a startup with a strong technological component is a bonus.

Founder Explorance

Volunteer coach, Mayor’s 2018 Award 

This engineer by training was 33 years old when he founded Explorance. Heading a growing company, he designs training management software in 24 countries, particularly for companies and institutions of higher education. A 2004 Laureate, he has also been a generous donor, a director and member of the Executive Board since 2016 and a member of the Grant Approval Committee. Extremely versatile and engaged, he also acts regularly as a coach and evaluator.

Elise Vézina

Mtl inc. Volunteer coach of the year 2019

She graduated from Ecole Polytechnique with a degree in engineering and created EV Strategies in 2014, after 20 years in sales, business development, strategic planning and marketing in the Canadian healthcare industry. Since 2017, Élise has become our # 1 reference in Life Science, Health & Medtech. As such, she is very popular as a coach and project evaluator. Elise is also interested in the development of women entrepreneurs.

Alain Choinière

Consultant in Osmose Marketing and Research and member of the Strategy Committee of the Quebec Food Processing Council, he has evolved in the food sector for many years. He has, among other things, been President of CRA Montreal as well as COGEM and Director of Advisory Services at Groupe Altus. Asset for Mtl inc. since January 2018, he has been characterized by unequaled availability, which has led him to take part in more than 30 occasions as a volunteer coach and more than 7 times as a project evaluator.
